A 36-year-old Detroit man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and stealing his squad car on April 1. Police say Jerome Adams was riding his bicycle along Woodward near Sproat Street when he saw the fully marked Detroit Police car running. He reportedly dropped his bike, attacked the officer near the car, hopped into the driver’s seat and drove off.
Adams reportedly made it about two blocks before crashing into a hydraulic barricade near Little Caesar’s Arena downtown. He was placed under arrest at the scene.
Adams now faces a slew of charges: carjacking, unarmed robbery, unlawful driving away of an automobile, receiving and concealing stolen property, malicious destruction of police property and resisting and obstructing. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon at the 36th District Court.
