Officers were injured after a man stole a police cruiser in Beachwood on Friday afternoon, according to the Beachwood Police Department.
Officers responded to the 3900 block of Richmond Road around 2:26 p.m. after receiving a report of a pick-up truck that had been stolen.
Police quickly spotted the stolen truck entering a parking lot near the intersection of Chagrin Boulevard and Green Road. When officers approached the truck, the man driving ditched the vehicle and fled on foot, according to authorities.
During the foot pursuit, the man came across an unoccupied Beachwood police cruiser that was running.
The man stole the cruiser and fled the scene, damaging property in the area, according to police.
Officers fired shots at the cruiser in an attempt at disabling the vehicle, but the man was still able to flee the scene in the cruiser at a low speed, police said.
Officers from Beachwood Police Department and Shaker Heights Police Department stopped the stolen cruiser in Shaker Heights near the intersection of Stoer Road and Lomond Boulevard.
The man attempted to flee on foot a second time but officers were able to arrest him, according to police.
During the incident, two Beachwood police officers suffered minor injuries.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation but had no apparent injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The identity of the man has not been released, but charges against him are pending, police said.
The incident is currently under investigation.
