An unknown suspect broke into and attempted to steal a Peoria Park District squad car while it was parked in front of the officer’s house overnight, according to police reports.

The officer told police that his squad car was parked in front of his house on W. Russell Street overnight when an unknown suspect broke into it.

The officer, who had parked his squad car around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, went outside Sunday morning at 10 and saw that the driver’s side tail light was broken.

He told police that the suspect had attempted to steal the department computer from inside the car.

The officer also noted significant damage to the steering column, which led police to believe that the suspect was trying to steal the car.

The officer told police that he had locked the squad car Saturday night when he left it in front of his residence.

Police reports indicate that no items were taken from the car, but a blood sample was taken from underneath the steering column, where the suspect had tried to peel it.

There is no more suspect information at this time.
