Police in Kansas City, Kansas, arrested a man Thursday afternoon after they say he stole a patrol cruiser and took officers on a chase across the city.
It started at 55th Street and Kansas Avenue where the man was driving slowly, according to police.
Authorities said say when they stopped him, the man jumped out and began running around. As officers called for backup, the man hopped into one officer’s car after a brief struggle for control and sped off, police said.
Witness video captured part of the pursuit.
About 4 miles later, police said the man crashed the police cruiser into a ravine by the woods at 74th Street and Armstrong Avenue.
Police dogs began to track the man.
“I think our officers did a great job. We knew where this person was. We knew where they were going. We found them quickly,” Officer Zac Blair said.
Police said the man ended up at a Taco Bell a block away, where he tried to get in through a drive-thru window. Employees were able to push him back. Police said the man then attempted to commandeer a white SUV, but the owners fought him off.
The man then ran inside the restaurant, where officers and an employee helped arrest him.
No one was hurt.
“A lot of unusual behavior. I think our officers did a good job of containing what could’ve been a much worse situation,” Blair said.
