01/29/17 Miami, FL – Man Steals Miami-Dade Running Patrol Car While Officer Investigated Suspicious Incident – Patrol Car Crashed Into Multiple Vehicles – Suspect Dies In Fire / Crash

An unidentified man was killed on Saturday after he allegedly stole a Miami-Dade police car and crashed a short time later on SW 99 Avenue and 24 Street.
The police car was stolen while a uniformed officer was investigating a suspicious incident at SW 16 Street and 107 Avenue.

“The officer was conducting her investigation when she observed her vehicle drive away,” explained Miami-Dade police Detective Daniel Ferrin. “The officer began making notifications that her vehicle was stolen, when a call was dispatched over police frequency, of a marked police vehicle involved in a traffic accident, Officers arriving on the scene were able to determine that the police vehicle was the same car taken minutes earlier.”

Ferrin said that the suspect lost control of the police car while heading east on SW 24 Street and crossed into the westbound lanes, sideswiping a Honda Civic and getting T-boned by a Chevy Suburban that was also heading west.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and extinguished a fire from the police car and pronounced the driver dead on the scene.

“The drivers of the Honda Civic and Chevy Suburban were treated and released on scene,” according to Ferrin. “The passengers of the Chevy Suburban, a mother, was transported to Kendall Regional Trauma Center and her two children were transported to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. All three victims were in serious but stable condition.”
