Police say a northeast Missouri woman honked as she drove away in a stolen patrol vehicle.
The alleged crime happened late Friday night at the Truman State University Police Department in Kirksville.
The investigation led to the arrest of Rafatou Assante, 25, of Kirksville.
She is charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
According to court documents, a Truman officer at the university police station heard the air horn of a running patrol vehicle go off.
When he went outside to investigate, Assante was driving the vehicle out of the parking lot.
Two officers conducted a traffic stop a few blocks away, where they arrested Assante.
Court documents state that she told police that she was trying to get home.
Assante is due in court in mid-August 2025.
