A burglary suspect escaped from police after threatening to commit suicide and stealing a police car in Robinson Friday night.

In a bizarre incident, police were called after a report of a burglary in progress on Edwards Lane around 10 p.m. Friday.

According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the suspect was found under a nearby tree and had a gun to his head. The two responding officers backed away from the suspect and lost their footing on a snowy hillside.

At that time, the suspect got up and made his way through a nearby yard, got into a patrol car that was left running and took off.

Officers pursued the man on foot and one was nearly run over by the suspect. Both officers then fired rounds at the vehicle, but police don't believe the suspect was hit by any of the bullets.

Shortly after being shot at, the suspect crashed into a snow bank, got out of the car and got away on foot into a wooded area near Tudor Lane and Interstate 79.

Police were able to track him for a short distance, but heavy snowfall prevented them from catching the suspect.

The suspect is described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall and was last seen wearing a black coat and black, orange and white backpack.
